One of the oldest companies in America, Story & Clark was founded by Hampton L. Story in 1857. His first pianos were built in a workshop overlooking Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont. There he constructed pianos of such high quality that his fame soon spread to such “distant” cities as New York, Buffalo and Cleveland.
In 1884 Hampton entered into a partnership with Melville Clark and in 1901 the company moved its factory to Grand Haven, Michigan. Pianos marketed by Story & Clark over the years have included: Irvington, Tennyson, Hobart M. Cable, Hampton, Price & Teeple, Packard, Hamton Story, Behning & Klix, and Weber. Story & Clark became part of QRS Music in 1993.
Today as in 1857, dedication to outstanding craftsmanship, tonal excellence and unequalled performance are still hallmarks of Story & Clark Pianos. Although manufactured overseas, Story & Clark Pianos are still built to our precise standards and specifications by skilled artisans, then carefully inspected, prepped and tuned in the Story & Clark facility in Seneca, Pennsylvania.
It is only after ensuring that they meet our exacting standards that the pianos are then delivered to our dealers throughout America. It is this attention to detail, combined with a rich heritage and progressive outlook that continues to set Story & Clark Pianos apart as quality instruments and beautiful pieces of furniture.
